El Jizah
Al Jizah is probably most visited area of Egypt as here are situated the world famous Great Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx. The pyramids and Sphinx worth a visit as only to wonder how such constructions could have been built long before the age of technology. The Pyramids and Sphinx are not the only places to be visited in the area. A lovely landscape of Bahariya Oasis, surrounded by black hills made up of ferruginous quartzite and dolorite deserve some attention as well. Most of the villages and cultivated land can be viewed from the top of the 50-meter-high Jebel al-Mi'ysrah, together with the massive dunes, which threaten to engulf some of the older settlements. Nearby are the Black and White deserts, making the surroundings look really strange and full of mystery. Visit the ruins of a 17th Dynasty temple and settlement to see the tombs where birds were buried. Bawiti is by far the largest village in the Bahariya Oasis with some 30,000 inhabitants. The town center is modern, while outside the centre are mud-brick houses. Recently, the town has received considerable press due to the find of a huge and possibly the largest necropolis of mommies from the Greco-Roman era.
