Crete
Crete is the largest of all the Greek islands and is situated at the southern most point of Greece, surrounded by the Cretan and Libyan Sea.

Crete has a daily sea and air connections with Pireaus and Athens and also has connections with Thessaloniki, Peloponnese, Cyclades Islands and Dodecanese Islands. The capital of the island is Heraklio, and it is one of the largest towns in all of Greece.
Crete was first inhabited during the Neolithic Age and came to it's peak during the Minoan years, known as the Minoan civilization which took it's name from the King Minoa, that flourished from 2800 BC to 1400 BC.
However, this was then destroyed by the explosion of the Volcano on the island of Santorini.
The island is suitable for quiet, but at the same time, cosmopolitan and lively holidays.
On Crete, you will find many of sandy beaches with crystal clear waters, some of which attract a lot of visitors. However, at the same time you can find very quiet beaches where you be quite alone and surrounded by beautiful nature.
On the island there are a lot of Venetian castles, remote small churches, monasteries, ancient ruins, museums, and fantastic magical scenery that will be unforgettable and make you want to come back time and time again to enjoy all that Crete has to offer.
Crete is always a very popular holiday destination in Greece, and the size and variety of the island make it one on which there are always new and charming places to discover and visit.
