Zabljak

It is the highest town in Yugoslavia, at the height of 1450 meters above the sea level. It covers the space of 445 square kilometers with more than 4 500 inhabitants. Above it, the mountain Durmitor rises, with Bobotov kuk, 2523 meters high. The mountain range of Durmitor covers the space between canyons of Tara, Piva and Komarnica, and the mountain Sinjajevina. The great difference in altitude between canyons and the top parts of Durmitor at a short distance of 2090 meters, is a special characteristic of the plateau of Durmitor.
This region is well known for several natural and geographic features. Zabljak has an excellent climate which, apart from favourable skiing terrains, makes excellent conditions for the development of the mountain tourism. It is attractive even during the summer period, especially for mountaineers, as well as for all others who like enjoying the beauty of the unchanged nature. Because of all these characteristic, Durmitor is, together with canyons of Tara and Susica, proclaimed the National park and became a part of the list of the World’s natural treasury. This region is also well known for a great number of lakes, among which the most famous is Crno jezero. Today, Zabljak and Durmitor make one of the most attractive tourist region in Europe.
